Weekend Getaway in Flims
As our final clients of the season depart from Zurs (where I am currently writing this blog), I have had a little bit of time to reflect on a few highlights of my winter season. One that really stands out for me was my “March lads’ weekend” in Flims.
My best friend Ben, his dad Paul, Paul’s friend Ian and I set off for a long weekend in Flims and we were kindly offered to stay in one of the Swiss Owners Collection properties, Casa Flumina, courtesy of the Browne family, who Ben and I know very well from previous seasons.
Flims
Our journey couldn’t have gone any smoother. Flying from Heathrow to Zurich and then hopping on the train from Zurich to Chur where we were met by a Powder Byrne van to whisk us up to Flims. We arrived at the Browne’s stunning apartment, settled into our rooms and then went through to the lounge where we could take in the amazing views of the village and the surrounding mountains.
We took a short 15 minute walk to the base station where Ian sorted out his ski hire, Paul went to the local supermarket for the weekend supplies and Ben and I hit Legna Bar for the first of many beers! We decided to grab a pizza at Pomodoro’s, a 5 minute walk from the Casa Flumina, and opted for an early night ready to ski the next day.
In the morning, the Powder Byrne van picked us up from the apartment and dropped us off at the base station then away we went. The skiing was incredible – no queues, great on and off piste skiing, wall to wall sunshine and great company. This was pretty much the routine for the weekend, although some mornings involved Paracetamol to accompany the omelettes that Paul rustled up in the the apartment’s amazing kitchen.
We skied hard in the mornings and then stopped at some great mountain restaurants that Flims has to offer. On Friday, we made our way to Larnags where we enjoy a few glasses of red and a Rosti on the sun terrace. On Saturday, we had to treat ourselves to a La Vacca steak lunch in the famous teepee restaurant. The steak, potato and garlic bread combo is to die for and it was a perfect location for having a few too many as we could hop straight on the gondola from Plaun back to Flims! Once we had skied, eaten and drank too much, the Powder Byrne van would drop us back to the apartment where we could go and relax in the sauna and steam room. We would then take a shower in our very own en suite bathrooms before retiring to the snug for a few more beers.
The weekend went far too quickly and if I could, I would stay for a lot longer! Casa Flumina managed through the Swiss Owners Collection was an amazing place to stay as it offered a great self catering option and it is absolutely stunning! From the comfort of the sofas to having your very own en suite bathroom, it really is an ideal place to spend a weekend (or longer!) skiing.
