Teenage Ski Guiding

What Can My Child Do After Outgrowing SnoZone?

For years, Powder Byrne has offered exceptional programmes catering to children of all ages and abilities on their ski holidays. However, a common question arises: what can teens or young adults do once they have outgrown Powder Byrne’s SnoZone programme, which only runs up to age 14?

Joining an Academy is an option, but not all teens are interested in advancing their skiing skills to high-performance levels. Skiing with parents through Powder Byrne’s complimentary ski guiding is another possibility, but it might not appeal to all teens who find adult settings less engaging.

To address this, Powder Byrne introduced its new Teenage Guiding programme. This programme is tailored for teens and young adults aged 16-19 who no longer need or want instruction but still wish to enjoy their holiday and ski with peers who share similar interests.

Launched in Andermatt and Arosa, the programme allows these older teens the freedom to ski independently while providing parents the reassurance that their children are guided by a qualified local professional.

The Teenage Guiding programme begins with a meet-and-greet session where a local guide and a Powder Byrne coordinator introduce themselves and learn about each participant’s preferences. They discuss the types of runs the teens enjoy, any specific areas they wish to explore, and their lunch preferences. With this information, the guide can customise the skiing experience to suit the group’s interests.

The local guide then leads the teens on the best runs the resort has to offer, taking advantage of optimal conditions and avoiding queues where possible. They are also taken to the most suitable and enjoyable lunch spots. Unlike the simpler meals preferred by younger skiers, these teens can indulge in more substantial options, such as the Big A Burger at Sit Hutte in Arosa, a Rosti at Piz Calmot in Andermatt, or Penne alla Bioch at Utia de Bioch restaurant in San Cassiano.

Throughout the day, teens enjoy the freedom to explore the mountains at their leisure, guided by a local professional who ensures they stay safe, find a hot chocolate break, and return in time for the end-of-day spa session at their hotel. Powder Byrne also arranges social evenings, where teens can gather for meals, activities like ice skating or curling, or even a pub quiz.

Powder Byrne has recently expanded the Teenage Guiding programme to more resorts, providing even more opportunities for teens to explore the mountains and enjoy their ski holidays independently.
