Surrounded by 38 summits above 4,000m, Zermatt is a car-free ski resort full of life and action all year round. The famed music event Zermatt Unplugged is taking place from 9th to 13th April this year.

Zermatt Unplugged offers the opportunity to see exciting newcomers, famous DJ’s and international artists with an unbelievable backdrop - the dramatic peaks of the Zermatt mountains. Zermatt Unplugged is a five-day acoustic music festival that has evolved into an essential part of the Swiss music scene. Launched in 2007 by Thomas Sterchi and Marco Godat, this unique festival has become an annual event for music lovers who religiously return year after year to enjoy all it has to offer.

With so many different music events, food stalls and outdoor activities there is something for every member of the family to enjoy. Particularly popular is the mini playback show that is held in the marquee tent (the largest stage out of the 5 impressive main stages) on the Saturday of the festival. Mini playback provides children the chance to perform on-stage like a real music star, anyone can take part and admission is free.

The line up this year is quite something, for all music fans out there you will be jumping at the chance to buy a ticket. There is a wide range of artists from different countries with different styles featuring special ‘unplugged’ show’s from Passenger, Boy George & Culture Club and Jessie J. Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club will also be performing at the spectacular Mont Cervin Palace, this is just a taster for what’s in store.

With the motto “The Delicious Difference”, Taste Village is situated in the heart of the alpine village and adds another dimension to this exciting festival. It has been set up in collaboration with Schweizer Fleisch; there are cosy chalets, taste stands and the exciting newcomer stage tempting you to linger and enjoy the acoustic music and wide range of culinary delights at your fingertips. Newcomer stages are a very central and identity-defining point of the festival, with 50 different bands and musicians performing in more than 30 concerts on 9 stages spread throughout the village and ski area from midday to midnight. Something worth taking note of is that you will need an unplugged pass if you want to check out the newcomer stages.

Last year Zermatt Unplugged had over 30,000 visitors, considering their total winter season visitor numbers were 113,000 this is a staggering number of festival goers and a credit to the calibre of the event. Their social media reach also verifies the success of the event, with over 6,000 followers on Instagram and 7,000 hashtags for the event itself, 15,000 Facebook likes and almost 3,500 already interested in the 2019 event on Facebook. The figures speak for themselves!

Due to the festival being such a success, Zermatt Unplugged now boasts the ‘Zermatt Unplugged Club’ set up specifically for the festival’s dedicated and loyal fans who return year on year to enjoy this unique alpine music festival.
