Sharpen your technique with the PB Ski Clinic in Zurs

It was too late, there was nowhere to hide, we had been well and truly spotted by SnoZone! The ski programme run by Powder Byrne for 10-1 4 year olds our children were on.

Laughter erupted from our children as they shouted, “Look, mummy has no ski poles!” I knew it was a mistake and I had protested somewhat when Boris, my Zurs ski instructor, confiscated my poles earlier that morning.

Bella and me with our fantastic instructor

I was not going to be able to live this one down as SnoZone zoomed past on their way to cover half the Alberg region before lunchtime, leaving my good friend Bella and I making slow turns in unison behind Boris.

I had promised myself for the past couple years to take some time out from guided ski groups for a private lesson.

The Powder Byrne Ski Clinic was introduced by Powder Byrne in 2017 and has proven extremely popular. It sounded like the perfect solution, where you can book an hour and a half lesson instead of the full-day that many resorts make you commit to, giving me time to catch-up with the guiding group for lunch. This seemed like the opportunity I had been waiting for to get on top of some bad habits and improve my technique, while building up my confidence.

Testing out our newly learned skills with family and friends

Bella and I booked two lessons, one in the early morning to improve our technique in icier conditions and a further afternoon session to gain confidence on heavier spring snow. Having more than one session gave me the chance to experience different snow conditions and how best to approach different challenges on the slopes.

Our instructors, Boris and Heli, were great fun and very patient with us, they had been carefully chosen for us by Pip, our Powder Byrne Resort Manager. The benefits from a short sharp lesson left us both with lots to think about and to build on for the rest of the week. I enjoyed my lesson with Bella, so much fun to share the experience with a friend and then have the rest of the week to ski with each other while we worked on our individual pointers from Boris and Heli.

I needn’t have worried about missing any refreshment stops, as we glided to the end of our lesson, we received the full Rolls Royce treatment from Powder Byrne where a smiling driver and private shuttle was waiting to whisk us back to our guiding group at the Alter Goldener Berg, one of my favourite restaurants in Oberlech.

A well-deserved glass of wine at the end of the day!

Powder Byrne Ski Clinic is an excellent opportunity to have an expert provide solid advice, tuition and the confidence I needed to get the most out of my week skiing with family and friends. I felt I really improved my technique and felt much more confident and able to take full advantage of the Powder Byrne guiding groups. I would thoroughly recommend Powder Byrne Ski Clinic and already look forward to my lessons next year.
