Yeti Primer – The perfect introduction to skiing for your toddler

There is no ‘perfect age’ for kids to start skiing.

Every child develops at their own pace, so the ideal age for starting to ski varies from one child to another. Some children have natural coordination and can begin skiing at a younger age, while others benefit from a more gradual introduction and will thrive when the environment is right.

Parents know their children best and understand what they are capable of; thus, there is no single ‘perfect age’ to start skiing. The first experience is crucial, though. For those ready to take their first tentative steps on the slopes at age 3, our carefully designed Yeti Primer programme provides the perfect introduction.

Over four decades, it has been tried, tested, and refined by our most discerning clients (the toddlers, of course!).

What is Yeti Primer?

The Yeti Primer programme blends fun morning sessions on the nursery slopes with afternoons filled with snow activities and time in our pb crèche, ensuring the perfect balance between skiing and playtime.

Energetic 3-year-olds are often thrilled about their first ski holiday, but the reality of snowy slopes, unfamiliar skis, boots, and other equipment can be daunting. The thought of spending hours skiing with a toddler between your legs might make you wonder if they’d be better off in a crèche or with a nanny while you enjoy the slopes. This is where our unique Yeti Primer programme comes in.

Our Yeti Primer teams are all qualified and experienced in teaching young children, introducing them to skiing in a playful and engaging manner. Our group sizes are small and led by a qualified ski instructor and supported by a Yeti Primer Assistant. They use fun aides and games to make the learning experience enjoyable and less intimidating during short morning sessions on the nursery slopes.

Yeti Primers are encouraged to get used to the sensation of moving on snow with skis and boots before being introduced to the ‘magic carpet’ conveyor belt lift and guided down gentle slopes.

A couple of hours on skis is enough to tire out little legs, so after a healthy lunch, their afternoons are spent in and around our pb crèche. They build snowmen, play games in the snow, enjoy arts and crafts, participate in singalongs, and listen to stories.
