Insider Tips: A Weekend in Arosa

As a previous Resort Manager for Powder Byrne and now a member of the client concierge team at Powder Byrne head office, I have a great understanding of what makes the perfect ski weekend in Arosa. With carefully selected hotels and our own Powder Byrne apartments, Chesa Forma, we have options to cater for everyone. The Powder Byrne resort team are there to assist with every aspect of the holiday with the primary aim of maximising the amount of skiing time.
Flights to resort are readily available from different airports around the UK and with the efficiency of Zurich airport getting there is a breeze. A great option for getting to resort is flying on a Thursday afternoon or evening and getting straight onto the train from Zurich to Arosa. Swiss trains are one of the most reliable train services in the world, allowing for a smooth transfer to resort. The train to Arosa is stunning, relaxing and the perfect way to arrive in resort, avoiding the hairpin bends.
Once in resort, everything will be ready for you. If time allows, ski hire can be done on the arrival day in preparation for the first morning on the slopes. The PB resort team will be on hand to assist in any way possible, including Powder Byrne shuttles to get you where you need to go with no fuss and Client Concierge service to make sure your restaurant, spa and activity bookings are all sorted. Ski passes will be waiting for you when you arrive in resort.
Arosa town is home to some exceptional restaurants. My recommendation would be to visit Aifach, Le Bistro and Alpenblick. All three restaurants offer something different. Aifach offers a set menu with front of house cooking, Le Bistro has arguably the best fondue chinoise in town and Alpenblick is a mountain restaurant with access via horse and carriage with a chance to sledge home.
Chesa Forma is a great option for a ski weekend as it provides flexibility for sleeping arrangements and can cater for larger groups. It also offers a different approach for evening meals, with the option of eating out or having a night in. Shopping can be pre-arranged and delivered to your apartment by the PB team, maximising your relaxation time.
After a good first night’s sleep, everything will be set to go on your first morning. Catching the first lift up the mountain is a great way to start the day and the slopes are easily accessible either by skiing out from one of the hotels or by Powder Byrne shuttle, which will collect you from your door.
Once on the slopes, let one of our complimentary ski guiding service take all the stress and hassle of finding your way around a mountain. Our knowledgeable Powder Byrne ski guides know the mountains so well and will make sure you experience all the best runs, photo points and coffee stops.
When it comes to refueling after a busy morning of skiing, Powder Byrne will arrange and book a lunchtime restaurant reservation at the best mountain restaurants. I have two personal favourites – Hornli Hutte in Arosa and Motta Hutte in neighbouring Lenzerheide. Both restaurants have wonderful outside sun terraces and stunning views. Coupled with this, the food is incredible and their wine lists are extensive.
Post-lunch, our guides will make the most of the afternoon conditions before either skiing you back to the hotel or arranging to meet a Powder Byrne van to shuttle you back to your accommodation. As darkness falls, this is a great opportunity to sample the fantastic spa facilities Arosa has to offer and allow the body to relax after an active day on the slopes.
A Powder Byrne ski weekend in Arosa is the perfect way to experience a fulfilling ski trip with maximum hours on the slopes whilst only being out of the office for a few days. It’s an ideal way to sample this unique resort for yourself or as a solution to get more skiing in during the season. Powder Byrne will take care of every aspect of your stay and ensure you have a fantastic weekend. The only element you will have to think about is what food and drink to order!
