Family Adventures in the Dolomites

Italy has a huge amount to offer visitors, with incredible food and wine, stunning landscapes, and historic sites aplenty. The Powder Byrne Air & Space family adventure holiday in the Dolomites of South Tyrol has a huge amount to offer everyone from thrill seekers to those who prefer a leisurely stroll. These peaks aren’t just for skiing; summer is the ideal time of year to explore the valleys, meadows, and lakes found below these imposing monoliths.
The Dolomites mountain range in the Italian province of South Tyrol can be seen by air, by bike, on the water, or on foot, so let us tempt you with all of our favourite family-friendly activities in the region.

White water rafting is not something you can do everyday so what better place to try it than in South Tyrol? You and your ten and ups are guaranteed laughter and all sorts of fun because this is one activity you won’t forget in a hurry. There are different levels of rapids so you can cater for the whole family, but the thrill seekers among you will be in their absolute element. Of course, our instructors are always on hand and safety is the top priority.

Cycling around the Dolomites is an absolute must and something the entire family can do together. Choose road bikes and pretend you’re in the Tour de France, or opt for some mountain biking to get up close and personal with the unique landscape. If you’d like to cut out some of the harder work you can take your bike on the chair lift then cycle down! With the Dolomites boasting Europe’s largest mountain plateau, Alpe di Siusi, you can cycle for hours or just have a leisurely ride en famille; our guides will make sure you see the best views and cycle on the best tracks, you won’t have to pick up a map.
With miles of walking trails of different levels we can tailor your hike to your family’s needs so you won’t be too exhausted at the end of the day. The stunning mountain views mean you can walk for hours if you fancy it, so why not pack a picnic lunch of local produce and eat next to one of the crystal clear lakes? Let the kids have a swim whilst you indulge in a glass of wine from a local vineyard, after all that walking you certainly deserve it!

If you’re into history and want to do something really quite different then we can recommend the Via Ferratas, or iron roads, where you can use ladders and metal walkways to scale the peaks, giving you amazing views. The Via Ferratas in the Dolomites were largely installed for use by soldiers during the First World War, so history buffs will be in their element.
Seeing the Dolomites by air is quite simply breathtaking so why not create an unforgettable memory by taking a helicopter ride? See all the spectacular things you wouldn’t see on foot as the South Tyrolean landscape rolls beneath you; a truly unique family experience.
With so much to see and do, you’d be hard pressed to take the same mode of transportation twice, so make sure you have your camera at the ready to start snapping away. To find out more about the Dolomites in the Summer call a Powder Byrne Travel Consultant on 0203 6511 965 or visit here.
