Diving in Crete: Interview with Our Instructor

This summer our exciting new concept, Learn Together, will be in full swing for the first time, giving families the opportunity to enjoy more enriching experiences during their holiday.

As always, our clients will enjoy the loveliest hotels in the most beautiful locations, but now they can also enjoy learning a new sport together with their private instructor and all the healthy competition, fun, and laughter that it entails.

The Learn Together programmes are surfing, scuba, sailing, polo and cycling across a range of our incredible European resorts. Programmes are completely flexible but we recommend morning sessions with your instructor before enjoying a more laid back afternoon back at your hotel where kids are free to join our children’s programmes.

We chatted to our expert Learn Together Scuba instructor in Crete about this unique programme. Our Scuba partners are PADI-accredited so you’re sure to have the perfect introduction to the world underwater.

What ocean life can divers expect to see while scuba diving in Crete?

Divers can expect to see a diverse range of interesting sea life including octopuses, morays, huge grouper fish, congers (a type of eel),   scorpion fish, colourful sea slugs, lobsters and large schools of fish, and if you’re lucky sometimes even dolphins, stingrays and occasionally guests from the red sea that have made their way through the Suez Canal. There’s always something fascinating to encounter in the waters surrounding Crete.

Is Crete/Elounda a good place to learn to Scuba dive? Why?

This is an ideal place to learn to dive because there is no permanent current or big waves and because there are 23 different diving spots in our diving base there is always a tranquil place to dive. The diving spot is chosen based on the divers’ abilities and the furthest spots are around 15 minutes by boat.

For beginner divers, learning in Crete means you never have to start off with boring pool dives because the sheltered bay with a depth no more than 5m is the perfect natural environment in which to learn and improve diving skills before venturing deeper. We also have very patient and well-qualified instructors to take you through each step.

What can novice divers expect to have learned by the end of the week?

We offer a globally-recognized certification program which is the best way to begin your life-long adventure as a certified scuba diver. Personalized training is combined with in-water practice sessions to ensure you have the skills and experience required to become truly comfortable underwater. By the end of the week, you will have learned the basics and gone on a number of discovery dives. The Learn Together programme is completely flexible so if you just can’t get enough of your new-found hobby you’re free to add even more dives in during your holiday.

What is your favorite thing about Scuba diving in Crete?

You can dive every day here but it will be a different experience each time! The terrain is so varied and there is the opportunity to spot different sea life on each dive. With crystal clear, turquoise water, this is a really special and beautiful place to dive!

What do you enjoy most about teaching Scuba diving?

The expression in the eyes of my student after every dive is what I love most! There is nothing better than introducing new divers to this addictive sport or taking more experienced divers on dives they will reminisce about forever.
