A Refined Introduction to the Slopes

It’s quite intimidating, the prospect of learning to ski as an adult. The ground seems quite a long way down, the snow seems awfully slippery under one’s skis and, in order to get the infamous snowplough right, one wonders if months of endless squats would have been wise in preparation. Not to mention the prospect of learning in a group with children, which often proves too daunting for many novice skiers.

We have designed our Learn to Ski in Style programme to be the perfect introduction to the slopes for adult skiers; where excellent, patient instructors teach small groups of 3 or 4 likeminded clients, and there are no kids in sight, since they’re all whisked away to their respective children’s ski programmes.

A day in Learn to Ski in Style begins when clients are collected from their hotel in our Powder Byrne private shuttles and dropped off at the base of the slopes. The Resort Manager introduces the clients to their instructor, who makes sure that all boots are correctly fastened and that skis are properly set up for each person’s height and weight, before the group sets off for the nursery slopes.

The wide, quiet and gentle slopes are the ideal place to learn and, while the snow feels slippery at first, the instructor has everyone snow ploughing in no time at all, giving them control of their speed and direction.

The instructor provides subtle corrections and approachable exercises to improve technique. Later in the week, when skiing skills in the group have developed, the group progresses to a blue run area for more of a challenge.

Learning to ski is tiring (and a great leg workout) so plenty of hot chocolate or glühwein breaks allow for some much-needed rest.

Each day, a table at a nearby mountain restaurant is pre-booked for the Learn to Ski in Style group, which is a great opportunity to loosen those ski boots and enjoy some delicious local cuisine and a glass or two of wine.

After lunch, the group skis until around 15:30, when clients are collected by the Powder Byrne private shuttles and returned to their hotel.

We recommend you schedule one or two relaxing spa treatments for the evenings, to ease tired muscles and relax in preparation for the next day’s skiing.

Learn to Ski in Style offers the opportunity to learn to ski in an approachable and fun way and it’s proven very popular with our clients. With expert tuition and the encouragement of one’s peers, its incredible how quickly a new skier can progress. It’s a wonderful thing to learn with people who are in the same boat and without any pressure to push yourself further than you’re capable.

This is what previous clients had to say about our Learn to Ski in Style programme:

My instructor was excellent and my skiing came on leaps and bounds”

“Brilliant ski instruction in Learn to Ski in Style, everything was well organised from getting to the hotel, to lunch on the slopes.”
